A Professor of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine, Oyetunde Timothy Oyeyemi, has declared that the war against parasites can be won by dismantling the barriers of misinformation and strengthening healthcare systems.
Professor Oyetunde who made the assertion while delivering the 10th inaugural lecture of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo described parasites as “the silent adversaries of human health which have long thrived in the shadows, infiltrating lives and eluding detection.”
He said science has been relentless at putting an end to the spread of parasites, stressing that “through dedicated research, we have learned to decode their patterns, understand their biology and anticipate their strategies.”
He added that “with every antigen profiled, every diagnostic tool developed and every parasite-host interaction elucidated, we move one step closer to tipping the scales in favour of human health.”
Oyeyemi, who spoke on the lecture entitled “Webs of Affliction, Thread of Hope: Unravelling Parasites, Patterns and Pathways to Health”, called for concerted efforts from all and sundry to win the war against the affliction of parasites.
I“Let us together be the generation that loosens the grip of parasites on human health. Let us be the architects of a future where science and society walk hand in hand toward a horizon free of neglected topical diseases,” he stated.
He encouraged scientists not to relent at working against the spread of parasites in all parts of the world.
