Don Jazzy donates N20m to project that aims to empower 10k youths with laptops

Don Jazzy, a popular music artist, has donated N20 million to support a social initiative that aims to empower 10,000 Nigerian youths with laptops. The initiative, tagged ‘The Tech Access Project’, is championed by Ayilola Ayotomiwa and 3 others.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post on Friday, Don Jazzy responded to a direct call for a donation, in which the conveners publicly wrote to him for support.  The call had requested his support, mentorship, or collaboration on the digital empowerment journey.

I’m reaching out to share a dream that was born right here among young, hopeful Nigerians, The Tech Access Project, an initiative dedicated to empowering 10,000 youths with 10,000 laptops,” part of the statement reads.

While Don Jazzy praised the initiative, describing it as commendable, he noted that he expressed his ability to donate N20 million to the project.

Bro, I hail o. Your initiative is commendable. But sir, 10,000 laptops is not beans. At this time, I can only afford to support with 20 million Naira and a repost. Hopefully, some other well-meaning Nigerians can help achieve the goal”, he wrote.

In addition, Don Jazzy expressed his dedication to creating more awareness for the initiative. He also encouraged other well-meaning Nigerians and associates to join in achieving the goal.

The conveners, in an X post on Saturday, confirmed the receipt of payment from Don Jazzy.

The digital empowerment project comes amid the need to support Nigerian youths who are talented with the skills but need a helping hand. The initiative seeks to meet the needs by not only recognising talents but also using these resources to uplift Nigeria’s digital economy.

The initiative, now popular on X with the #10klaptopsproject, has received massive public support from Nigerians with reposts.

What Don Jazzy’s donation means for the initiative

The Tech Access Project initiative aims to provide laptops to young Nigerians passionate about tech, design, music production, and digital entrepreneurship. It seems to help them bring their ideas to life and make something meaningful for themselves and Nigeria.

According to the conveners, Ayilola Ayotomiwa, Folowosele Adeboye, Bolade Adenike Esan, and Oriyomi Soyoye, the vision is dedicated to giving young Nigerians the future they deserve. And this targets those passionate about tech who need helping hands to polish their ambition.

“We’re reaching out to partners and supporters to help make laptops accessible, through sponsorships, subsidised partnerships, or simply amplifying the message,” Ayilola expressed in a post.

VAAS Global, an edtech platform, has also offered scholarship support to equip the 10,000 Nigerians with tech and skills.

As of Saturday, Ayilola revealed that over N21 million has been raised so far for the project. The process of the laptop distribution will be made known once the funds for the 10,000 laptops are secured.
