The Chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko has promised Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) of the support of the Commission in it’s efforts at developing sports at the grassroots.
He gave the assurance when he received the National President of the Federation, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna in his office.
According to Dikko, the Commission appreciates the role YSFON has played in discovering talented youths over the years, noting that the Federation is synonymous with grassroots sports development which the present leadership of NSC is championing.
“I must have to appreciate YSFON which is the oldest grassroots Sports Federation in the country for the roles it has played in developing talented youths.
“It’s on record that the first set of players that won the Junior World Cup for Nigeria were all products of YSFON and they’ve continued to be leaders in grassroots sports development and we’ll continue to support the Federation.
In his remarks YSFON President, Dr. Gawuna congratulated Dikko on his appointment; saying that his wealth of experience will help in moving Nigerian sports forward.
“I decided to pay you a courtesy visit to congratulate you on your appointment and seek better collaboration between the Commission and the Federation.
“I equally want to say that the President made the right decision by appointing you as the Chairman of the NSC and Bukola Olopade as the Director General and I believe your experiences will help in repositioning Nigerian sports.
Gawuna, who is the former Deputy Governor of Kano State as well as the Chairman of Federal Mortgage Bank, promised the NSC Chairman that with adequate support, the Federation will break more grounds.
