Kenneth Onyekachi Ihemekwele, Chairman of SADC Union of Nigeria Communities, has issued a passionate call for national unity and an end to the divisive tribal politics that continue to undermine collective progress.

Daily Independent learnt this from Ambassador Kenneth Onyekachi Ihemekwele today in a telephone conversation with our reporter today being Saturday, September 6, 2025, as he reacted, defended NIDCOM Chairman, Dr. Dabiri-Erewa in recent criticisms faced by her office from Nigerians in Diaspora, as Ihemekwele expressed deep concern for a nation he believes has unlimited potential, yet remains shackled by ethnic divisions.

Ambassador Ihemekwele’s passionate appeal reflects the pain of watching fellow Nigerians tear each other down instead of building up their beloved homeland. He stated, “True progress for Nigeria can only be achieved when we move beyond tribal considerations and work together as one people,” Ambassador Kenneth Ihemekewele stated with evident emotion. “We must understand that our diversity should be our strength, not our weakness. Every Nigerian, regardless of their ethnic background, has a vital role to play in our nation’s development.”

The diaspora leader spoke with particular reverence about the often-unrecognized sacrifices made by those who dedicate their lives to serving Nigerians abroad. He highlighted the exceptional work of Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, whose tireless efforts have transformed countless lives across the diaspora community.

Recounting the sacrifices made by the current NIDCOM Boss, he stated, “Dr. Abike Dabiri has played a pivotal role in shaping the diaspora experience. We must honestly acknowledge that if not for Dr. Dabiri’s unwavering commitment, Nigerians in the diaspora would have faced far greater challenges. Even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other sister agencies have not accomplished half of what she has been doing for diasporans, often working behind the scenes with little recognition.”

Ambassador Kenneth Ihemekwele noted that this call for unity of purpose has become necessary as Dr. Dabiri-Erewa, a dedicated public servant, faces unwarranted criticism based purely on ethnic considerations. “Instead of celebrating and supporting those who sacrifice for our collective good, we witness the sad spectacle of people playing ethnic cards and constantly seeking ways to undermine their efforts,” he lamented. “This breaks the heart of every true patriot who understands that service to Nigeria should be honored, not vilified.”

The Ambassador’s appeal extends beyond mere rhetoric to address the real challenges facing Nigerian communities worldwide. He emphasized the urgent need for collective action against the serious threats that endanger Nigerian lives and dignity globally.

“I call on every Nigerian, both at home and abroad, to join hands in fighting human trafficking, drug abuse, and other vices that plague our communities,” Ambassador Kenneth Ihemekwele urged with the compassion of one who has witnessed the devastating impact of these challenges. “These are the battles worth fighting, not the petty divisions that weaken us, but the real enemies that threaten our people’s safety and future. Instead of expending energy trying to bring down those who serve us faithfully, let us channel that passion into protecting and uplifting our fellow Nigerians”, Ihemekwele added.
