DHL Global Forwarding has appointed Egidio Monteiro as CEO for Sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa, effective immediately. Monteiro will also retain his role as Head of Industrial Projects for Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, and report directly to Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Middle East and Africa. This appointment coincides with Sub-Saharan Africa’s impressive growth, which saw a 10% year-on-year increase in trade value in the first half of 2025, with forecasted annual trade volume growth of 4.3% through 2029, the second-fastest globally. Monteiro’s new role positions him to drive DHL’s expansion and support customer growth in the region
Egidio brings over two decades of experience within the DHL network, having started his career as a courier with DHL Express Angola in 2001. Over the years, he has held several operational and leadership roles, including helping to integrate Danzas and Exel Logistics into the group. In 2006, he successfully launched DHL Global Forwarding Angola and later became CEO for Southern Africa. His deep expertise and proven leadership make him well-positioned to drive growth and operational excellence across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding MEA, commented: “Egidio’s journey within DHL is a true reflection of our culture of growth and opportunity. His extensive experience and passion for developing teams and delivering customer-centric solutions will be vital as we continue to strengthen our presence in Sub-Saharan Africa. The region remains a key growth market for us, especially following DHL Group’s recent investment of more than €300 million to accelerate trade and logistics infrastructure across Africa.”
On his appointment, Egidio Monteiro said: “I am honoured to take on this expanded role and continue working with our talented teams across Sub-Saharan Africa. The region holds immense potential, and I’m excited to drive innovative solutions that support our customers’ growth while contributing to the continent’s economic development.”
As trade in Sub-Saharan Africa accelerates, we at DHL are committed to using our global expertise and local partnerships to deliver reliable, sustainable solutions that keep businesses connected and help the region reach its full potential.
