Despite Endorsing Tinubu, APC Throws Ticket Open – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that despite the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by all the organs of the party, doors are still open for other aspirants to contest the presidential ticket.

Recall that all the organs of the party had sometime this year endorsed President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

The National Organising Secretary of APC, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the just concluded 2025 legislative by-elections and other germane issues at the party’s national secretariat.

Acknowledging that all the organs of the party have endorsed President Tinubu for 2027 presidential election, Argungu said that the door to contest for the presidential ticket is still widely open, adding that the party will not deny anybody his franchise as a member of the APC.

He said: “The aspiration of the people would be the wish of the party. As leaders of the party today, the NWC has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next presidential candidate of the party. By extension, other organs have done similar thing. Governments in most of the states, zones in most of the six political zones, have also adopted the same.

“But that does not mean that the door is closed. That does not mean that when time comes, like we did always, we’ll make our timetable known so that for anybody who wants to aspire to be the next president of this country, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, we’ll not deny him that opportunity to come and purchase form. We’ll allow him to come and pay. So that he can exercise his franchise as a member of the APC.

“We have never said it for any time, for any day that we have closed the door. But we are only telling people that we appreciate what Mr. President is doing to the good people of this country.”

Earlier, in his speech, Argungu said that through the grace of Almighty Allah and through the commitment of leaders, members, and supporters nationwide, the APC emerged victorious in 13 out of the 16 contested seats, across 12 states of the federation.

He said: “This is a remarkable achievement and a reaffirmation of the confidence Nigerians continue to repose in the APC.

“The APC won in the following constituencies: Adamawa – Ganye State Constituency; Edo –Ovia Federal Constituency, Edo – Edo Central Senatorial District; Jigawa – Babura-Garki Federal Constituency; Kaduna – Zaria Kewaye State Constituency, Kaduna – Basawa State Constituency, Kaduna – Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, and Kano – Ghari/ Tsanyawa State Constituency.

“Others are: Kogi – Okura State Constituency; Niger – Munya State Constituency; Ogun – Remo Federal Constituency; Taraba – Karim Lamido State Constituency, and Zamfara – Kaura Namoda South State Constituency”.

These victories, according to Argungu, are not just statistics, they are a reaffirmation of the trust Nigerians continue to place in the APC.

He said: “They demonstrate the strength, resilience, and growing acceptance of our party nationwide.

“They reflect the belief of the Nigerian people in our capacity to deliver purposeful leadership and good governance.”

He, however, disclosed that the APC will schedule an interactive session with all elected senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state House of Assembly members soonest, in Abuja.

He added that this session “will serve as a platform to share ideas and build trust. Help chart a common course for engagements at both national and state levels. Strengthen the alignment of our elected representatives with the vision of the APC and the expectations of Nigerians.”

He appreciated President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and support, Progressives Governors’ Forum for their coordination and sacrifice, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for their dedication and party stakeholders and supporters nationwide for their loyalty and commitment.

He said on behalf of the party, “We reaffirm our full commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. We assure Nigerians that both the president and the APC remain dedicated to their welfare, security, and prosperity. We will continue to deliver dividends of democracy and uphold the trust placed in us by the people.

“The task before us is enormous, but with discipline, loyalty, and unity, we will continue to deliver victories for the APC and progress for Nigeria.”
