The PDP had scheduled its national convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

While a High Court sitting in Abu­ja had stopped the convention from holding twice, an Oyo High Court had given the go-ahead for the convention to hold.

The PDP, in a statement on Wednes­day in Abuja, by its spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, urged its members to ignore misleading claims being peddled to the contrary by some indi­viduals, adding that it is the work of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement reads, “The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) informs all party members and the public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

 “The NWC and the NCOC urge Party members and Nigerians in general to dis­regard misleading claims be­ing peddled to the contrary by some individuals who, it had been revealed, are recruit­ed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its failed attempt to stop the PDP Na­tional Convention.

“We are aware of the plots by the APC to destabilise the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country; a design that will be lawfully resisted.

“The NCOC and the Party will continue to work assid­uously round the clock to ensure a successful Nation­al Convention in Ibadan as scheduled.

“While thanking Nigerians for their overwhelming sup­port for our party, the NCOC welcomes all delegates, party leaders, officials and all sup­porters of the PDP who have already started arriving in Ibadan for the National Con­vention.”

Meanwhile, factional chairmen of the Peoples Dem­ocratic Party (PDP) have reaf­firmed their collective faith in the immense potential of the party to reinvent itself and reclaim its status as Nigeria’s foremost political platform— one capable of fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

The PDP chairmen said, “We recognise that the PDP was founded on the timeless ideals of democracy, justice, equity, and inclusiveness— principles that have sustained its relevance since the advent of the Fourth Republic.”

The Progressive and Dem­ocratic Chairmen of PDP, in a statement in Abuja by the Imo State Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu, emphasised that, as custodians of these ideals, it is their responsibili­ty to ensure that the party not only survives its current chal­lenges but emerges stronger, more united, and truly reflec­tive of the will of its members and the Nigerian people.

“In this regard,” the state­ment continued, “we affirm our unwavering commitment to the rule of law, internal de­mocracy, and total adherence to the provisions of our par­ty’s constitution in the day-to-day administration of our affairs. We believe that disci­pline, fairness, and constitu­tional order are indispensable to the credibility and sustain­ability of our great party.”

The PDP chairmen ex­pressed their full support for the appointment of Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad as Acting National Chairman of the party and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT).

“We have absolute confi­dence in their leadership ca­pacity, experience, and integ­rity to steer the PDP through this period of renewal and repositioning,” they said.

According to them, both leaders represent the dem­ocratic spirit, institutional memory, and inclusive vision required to rebuild trust, re­store confidence, and drive the ongoing process of recon­ciliation and reorganisation across all levels of the party.

They added that under the guidance of Abdulrahman and Ohuabunwa, the PDP would be better positioned to reclaim its historic role as the chief promoter and defender of democracy in Nigeria.

The statement further called on all loyal members of the party—from the grass­roots to the national level—to unite, put aside personal am­bitions, and work collectively toward the revival and trans­formation of the PDP into a truly people-oriented, pro­gressive political movement.

“Our commitment re­mains unshaken,” the chair­men declared, “to build a PDP that Nigerians can once again look up to with pride and confidence—as the cred­ible alternative, the voice of democracy, and the platform for good governance.”
