Constructive Talks By FG Will Defuse Tension With US – Law Firm
Abuja-based law firm, Law Corridor, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to constructively engage the United States to defuse diplomatic tension between the President Bola Tinubu administration and his American counterpart Donald Trump.
In a statement on Tuesday, the firm observed that the designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern” (CPC)’ by the United States has “potential reputational and economic implications for Nigeria”.
The statement was jointly signed by the firm’s Managing Partner, Henry Eni-Otu; Deputy Managing Partner, Ajibola Bello; and Senior Partner, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
“Nigeria’s private sector, from multinationals to SMEs, may also face increased risk scrutiny, trade challenges, supply-chain restrictions, and compliance exposure,” the statement partly read.
“We, therefore, emphasise and call for the need for immediate diplomatic engagement to prevent any deterioration in international commercial relations.
“Law Corridor aligns with all lawful and peaceful efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria, diplomatic stakeholders, and civil society actors to engage constructively with the United States, correct any inaccurate perceptions, demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to human rights, and strengthen national security responses within the confines of the Nigerian Constitution and international law.”
The firm also condemn the killing of innocent Nigerians by bloodsucking marauders over the years and tasked the Nigerian Government and its military on potent strategies to wipe out the killers, whilst maintaining that the security of lives and properties remains the major responsibility of the government.
It called for principled diplomacy, mutual respect, and constructive partnership in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges without compromise to international law or Nigeria’s sovereignty.
