Delta: Oborevwori frowns at NYG poor outing, demotes executive essistant

All is not well with the Delta State Sport Commission as His Excellency. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori is irked at the state’s poor outing at the just concluded National Youth Games coupled with the backlash and poor arrangement put in place by the Local Organising Committee and the Sports Commission for the games.

Blueprint.ng correspondent can report that Lagos dethrones Delta to come out tops at the NYG which was hosted in Asaba.

Blueprint.ng correspondent gathered that the governor summoned an emergency meeting with the LOC and Sports Commission immediately after the game’s closing ceremony to discuss and dissert the reason behind the state’s failure in taking the first position, the traditional position of the state in the last eight editions of the of the games.

Our very reliable source that is privy to what was discussed at the high level emergency meeting disclosed that the state’s sports loving governor expressed his total disappointment at the results of the game and was categorical on the fact that the state’s second position placing was totally unacceptable to him and sports loving people of Delta state considering the fact that he provided all the was requested for by the sports commission and the LOC in the execution of games to ensure that the state excel and be in position to return with the traditional first position placing.

In expressing his unhappiness about the situation, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori was alleged to instantly demoted his Executive Assistant (EA) on sport and the immediate past Director-General of the Sports Commission, Mr Festus Owhojero, under whose leadership the games were planned and put together and who before now held sway at the commission.

It is on record that the governor, has continued to emphasise his zero tolerance position for incompetence and failure in his government and in this regard, Mr Festus Owhojero thus, becomes the first major casualty of his administration after the games as he has been demoted from his position of EA to that of Senior Special Assistant, SSA with immediate effect.

Our reliable source further informed Blueprint.ng correspondent that His Excellency is keen in ‘re-jiging’ and reposition the state’s sport commission and the entire sports sector in the state so as to ensure that Delta State return to its usual winning ways.

Furthermore, our source said that the governor ended the emergency meeting by directing the officials of the commission and the LOC to urgently prepare detailed report on the games, submit same to his office in order to let his office to know exactly what happened during the games, the way forward so as to allow the state government  do the needful for future games, which coincidentally again will be hosted by Delta State in line with the memorandum of understanding (MoU)that was signed some few years ago.
