The Delta State Government announced on Monday that the impressive achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in terms of infrastructural and human capital development are causing unease among the opposition in the state.
During a radio program broadcast from Asaba, the state capital, Charles Aniagwu, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, shared insights into the current political climate.
He stated that while the opposition is free to engage in political discourse, the governor’s focus remains firmly on governance and the implementation of the MORE Agenda.
“The opposition may engage in political maneuvering, but our priority is governance. When the appropriate time comes to discuss politics, we will let our accomplishments speak for themselves,” Aniagwu stated.
“Governor Oborevwori has significant achievements to showcase, which are already unsettling our opponents.”
He emphasized that instead of being drawn into political debates too prematurely, the government would respond by continuing to roll out more projects.
“We measure our success through the initiatives we deliver to the public. When our opponents speak, we will counter their claims with tangible evidence of our work,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of project visibility as a report card for the administration.
The Commissioner reassured that the Oborevwori administration would ultimately be evaluated based on its fulfillment of the promises made to the people. “Governor Oborevwori committed to maintaining and completing ongoing projects while initiating new ones.
Residents of Uvwie, Warri, and surrounding areas can attest to the transformation brought about by the new flyover bridges in that region,” he noted.
Aniagwu stressed that the current focus is not on political competition but on delivering value to the people of Delta State.
He urged that any assessment of Governor Oborevwori should be based on his actual achievements and how well he meets the commitments made to the citizens.
“While we recognize the necessity of political engagement, we are firmly committed to governance at this time. Governor Oborevwori remains dedicated to fulfilling his promises, and those achievements will resonate when the political season arrives,” he asserted.
Regarding project delays, Aniagwu attributed some of the challenges to rising costs of construction materials, which resulted from the removal of subsidies.
He explained, “When Governor Oborevwori took office, the prices of construction materials saw a significant increase. This situation has necessitated adjustments to many projects to ensure they remain viable and do not compromise the state’s interests.”
He conveyed the administration’s comprehensive approach to development, noting that it inherited around 370 road projects while also initiating new ones.
“Our development strategy ensures that every community has an equal opportunity to benefit from the governor’s plans,” he stated. While highlighting ongoing projects in the Warri area, Aniagwu also emphasized the importance of road developments within Asaba.
In addressing concerns about insecurity, Aniagwu called on parents to take an active role in the upbringing of their children, emphasizing that societal crime is often rooted in insufficient home training.
He underscored the significance of effective parenting in establishing a stable community free from crime.
Additionally, he expressed the need for a re-engineered educational curriculum that equips graduates with technical skills relevant to today’s job market.
He proudly noted that over 205,000 individuals have benefited from the Delta Cares Programme, which aims to empower people to become job creators rather than mere job seekers.
On the issue of public education, Aniagwu highlighted the ongoing extensive renovations of schools across the state and commended Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
