Delta Airlines Flight Flips Over on Landing at Toronto’s Pearson Airport, Leaving 8 People Injured

5 days ago 29

A Delta Air Lines flight crash-landed and flipped upside-down at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, leaving eight passengers, including a child, critically injured.

The aircraft, identified as Delta Flight 4819, departed from Minneapolis at 11:47am and crashed just before 3pm Images from the scene show the severely damaged jet smoldering on a snowy runway as dazed passengers scrambled to safety. One wing appeared crumpled, and the tail section was partially sheared off.

Paramedics confirmed that eight passengers—including a man in his 60s and a pediatric patient—were transported to separate hospitals with critical injuries. Authorities have not confirmed any fatalities, but Toronto Pearson Airport announced on X (formerly Twitter) that all passengers and crew members were accounted for.

Dramatic footage from the scene, posted on Facebook by passenger John Nelson, showed firefighters and paramedics rushing across the snow-covered runway toward the overturned aircraft. In the video, Nelson narrates:  “We’re in Toronto. We just landed. Our plane crashed, it’s upside-down. Fire department is on site. Most people appear to be OK. We’re all getting off.”

Constable Sarah Patten of the Peel Regional Police said that while most passengers were able to evacuate safely, authorities were still investigating to ensure everyone was accounted for.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier CRJ-900LR, a regional jet that can seat up to 88 passengers and four crew members.

The crash occurred following a weekend winter storm, which dumped nearly nine inches of snow on the airport, forcing crews to work overnight to clear key runways. It remains unclear whether weather conditions played a role in the crash.

In response to the incident, Toronto Pearson temporarily suspended all arrivals and departures. The Association of Flight Attendants later confirmed in a statement on X that no fatalities had been reported.

This marks the first major commercial aviation incident since the January 29 crash of an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines flight 5342 at Ronald Reagan National Airport, which resulted in 67 fatalities.

Delta Air Lines has yet to release an official statement regarding the crash. Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the accident.
