The Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed claims by Niger Republic military junta that some Nigerians are working against the peace and stability of the country.
Badaru stated this Sunday while speaking to journalists at the venue of the “Citizen Engagement” programme held in Birninkudu local government area of Jigawa state.
Badaru’s statement has eased tension currently brewing between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
It would be recalled that, recently, the Nigerien military leader, Abdourahamane Tchiani, had earlier accused Nigeria of colluding with France to destabilise Niger.
Badaru said Nigeria and Niger Republic share strong brotherly ties, and no Nigerian is working against the peace of either country.
The minister reassured Nigerians that the military remains committed to eliminating all threats to national security, such as banditry and Boko Haram.
He further stated that the Armed Forces have been equipped with all necessary weapons and resources to tackle security challenges effectively.
Badaru also highlighted improvements in Nigeria’s security situation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He credited the president’s leadership for the progress made in securing the country’s nooks and crannies.
