The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said those leaving the party are doing so purely out of self-interest.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Dogo Victor, made the statement on Monday, during an interview with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Yola.
According to him, there is no genuine reason for the recent wave of defections from the PDP in the state, adding that those leaving are motivated by personal ambitions rather than party challenges.

“There is nothing about the PDP that could be considered serious enough to cause defection,” Dogo said.
He stressed that “whatever excuse defectors may cite could safely be disregarded, as they are leaving in pursuit of purely personal interests.”
He made the remarks while reacting to the defection of the immediate past deputy governor, Chief Crowther Seth, who left the party in June.
He also referred to former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who recently defected from the PDP.
“Atiku left the party, but his son, Adamu Atiku, remains in the PDP and is a very prominent member of the government as Commissioner of Works,” Dogo stated.
“Atiku left because he has a personal political interest to pursue.”
Dogo, who became the state PDP Publicity Secretary earlier this month after a consensus congress, said minor disagreements that followed the congress were not unusual.
He added that the party had already set up a reconciliation committee to address any lingering issues among aggrieved members.
