Defections: How PDP’s problem started – Fayose

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the crisis currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deep-rooted causes that predate recent defections.

Fayose made the remark on Wednesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, while reacting to the recent wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His comment follows the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the APC on Tuesday, and that of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, barely 24 hours later.

“This is the issue with the PDP. Sometimes when you ask people why they are like this, they will tell you, ‘no be today’. The PDP problem no be today. The PDP’s problem did not start today,” Fayose said.

Using an analogy, he added: “Any water where you see shark jumping out, you see that the signs are negative. The presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general elections jumped out of the water.”

Fayose, however, clarified that despite his open admiration for President Bola Tinubu, he remains outside the APC fold.

“I am not a member of the APC and I will never be. I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone,” he stated.
