Senator Natasha’s assertion on the Brekete Family radio program that she was assigned a seat in a location where raising her hand would render her invisible to cameras and unseen by fellow lawmakers is an outright falsehood. If such a claim were true, it would amount to a monumental architectural blunder, an indictment of the professionals who designed and constructed the Senate chamber.
However, Nigeria’s Senate chamber is a state-of-the-art facility, built following global best practices in legislative architecture. It is designed to ensure visibility, audibility, and full participation of all senators in proceedings. The chamber follows a semi-circular seating arrangement, which ensures that every lawmaker, regardless of their assigned seat, is within the line of sight of both the presiding officers and the cameras covering the sessions.
Furthermore, numerous senators have occupied and contributed effectively from the same seating area in past and present sessions without ever raising such an absurd complaint. Legislative sessions are recorded and broadcast, and there is no evidence to support the notion that certain seats are designed to render lawmakers invisible.
It is also disappointing that the Brekete Family radio host hastily took sides without verifying facts or considering the structural integrity of the Senate chamber. Without seeking clarification, he prematurely declared that “the masses are with her,” a highly judgmental statement that shows bias rather than objective journalism. A responsible media platform should encourage fact-based discourse rather than fueling baseless narratives.
This is yet another case of political theatrics designed to mislead the public. The Senate chamber is built for functionality, inclusivity, and visibility—no seat in the chamber – is designed to silence any Senator.
