Dangote announces date for free fuel distribution

The Dangote Refinery is set to commence its free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, 15th of September, 2025 beginning with Lagos, the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo states.

Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for the Dangote Group, said the initiative aims to provide relief to millions of Nigerians by offering fuel at reduced prices. “We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, beginning with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo states. Prices will drop as the distribution begins,” he stated.

Retail petrol prices have been reduced to N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, and N851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta. The company expects this to ease financial burdens and stimulate economic activity.

Over 1,000 trucks have already arrived at the refinery to support the programme, with more states expected to benefit as additional trucks are deployed. The refinery is also rolling out a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to strengthen logistics and cut distribution costs.

Despite recent increases in CNG prices, Dangote remains committed to a 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year. The free fuel distribution scheme, initially planned for August, was delayed due to logistics issues in China.
