Media Trust Group’s flagship publication, Daily Trust newspaper, on Tuesday won the 2025 Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) in the category of Best-Designed Newspaper of the Year.

Daily Trust edged out Leadership and ThisDay newspapers, which emerged as runners-up.

This feat marks the second consecutive win for Daily Trust after clinching the same award in 2024.

The award was received by Taofeek Oyeniyi, Regional Manager of Media Trust Group.

In an interview with newsmen, Oyeniyi said Media Trust invests heavily in the design of its publications, saying it would not rest on its oars in providing quality content for its readers.

He described the consecutive wins as a testament to the company’s dedication to quality journalism.

“We take everything about journalism very seriously, and that is why we pay close attention to the outlook of our paper.

“As the saying goes, first impressions matter. I believe that’s why the organisation invested heavily in the paper’s design.

“Winning the award last year and this year is proof of that investment. Daily Trust will not relent in its efforts to justify this award. We are not going to limit our efforts to the appearance of the paper alone.

“Every aspect of journalism will be taken care of in order to justify the responsibility that society has placed on the shoulders of journalists,” he said.

Meanwhile, Punch newspaper stole the show, sweeping eight awards in different categories.

Since the inception of the award ceremony in 1991, 643 title awards have been won, and 31 lifetime achievement awards have been presented over the past 19 years.

During the ceremony,  journalists who passed away this year were remembered.

They included Dan Agbese, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, who died at the age of 81 on November 17, 2025; Doyin Abiola, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, who died on August 5; and Christopher Kolade, who received the award in 2008 and died at age 93.

Also remembered were Joseph Agboola, who died at the age of 71, and Evelyn Osagie, who passed away at 49.
