Nigeria’s Yellow has recorded a fifth consecutive win at the second West African Trophy tournament in Abuja after beating Zambia by 23 runs.
The game played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Monday, saw Zambia win the toss and asked Nigeria to bat.
In the first innings, Nigeria scored 158 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Veteran and Pace bowler Isaac Okpe, in the second innings, ensured Nigeria restricted the visitors to 135 all out in 19 overs.
Okpe’s five wicket-haul earned him the Player of the Match honours.
After the game, an elated Okpe said he was happy to contribute to the team’s success.
“I must thank my team for their efforts. Without them, this award would not have been possible.
“I look forward to contributing my quota to the team and hopeful, we can win this tournament,’’ Okpe noted.
Nigeria will take on Rwanda on Tuesday in the four-nation tournament in Abuja. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
