Council sacks deputy rector over insubordination

From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Wannune has approved the dismissal from service of Doris Iorchir over insubordination and for failing to tender sensitive academic records and relevant promotional documents from previous employers after two years of probationary period.

Until her dismissal, Doris Iorchir, a lecturer in the Department of Accountancy, was the deputy rector of the institution.

The letter of dismissal, dated 18th August, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, Dr Muhammed Ndaeji, who also serves as Secretary to the Council, stated that the action takes immediate effect.

Our correspondent gathered that the dismissal followed the recommendations of the Management Disciplinary Committee.

The dismissal letter, as sighted by our correspondent in Makurdi, read: “At its emergency meeting held on the 18th August, 2025, the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Wannune, considered and deliberated on the report of the Management Disciplinary Committee as it affects you (Doris Iorchir).

“Having established the following cases against you: insubordination to constituted authority; arrogance to the Rector; and use of foul language; refusal to appear before the Management Disciplinary Committee; unauthorised disclosure of official information; and your refusal to provide some vital documents from your former employers, after two years of probationary period.

“The Council, based on the recommendations of the Management Disciplinary Committee and in line with Public Service Rules, approved your dismissal with effect from 18th August, 2025.

“Consequently, you are to hand over all the institution’s properties, identity card included, to the Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic with immediate effect.”

Our correspondent gathered that the institution was dismayed at Dr Iorchir’s refusal to “provide some vital documents from her former employers, after two years of probationary period”, indicating that she had something to hide.

But instead of providing the documents that could guarantee her confirmation on the job, as demanded by the council, Dr Iorchir, who was the deputy rector, decided to petition the Rector, Dr Ashinya Tyover.

In the 94-page petition sighted by the media, Dr Iorchir made allegations of financial impropriety against the Rector and immediately followed it up with two other petitions, in which she alleged that the Rector, Chairman, members of Council, and other notable personalities within and outside the state were sponsoring acts of terrorism in the state.

The authorities of the polytechnic then forwarded the petition to the Management Disciplinary Committee, which deliberated on the matter and made its recommendations to the Governing Council of the institution, leading to her dismissal.

A source within the Polytechnic, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent in confidence that one other thing that earned her the sack was that she allegedly refused to explore the internal mechanisms for resolving conflicts before taking the matter to the public domain.
