A fully loaded 40-foot container truck (XP 368 AKD) overturned on a tricycle (KJA 364 QN) on Tuesday along Ijora Causeway, killing a serving police officer and a female passenger.
According to LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the truck lost control while attempting a risky maneuver beneath Ijora Bridge, crushing the tricycle.
Two other individuals, including the tricycle operator, were rescued with severe leg fractures and taken to Jimsan Hospital, Ijora, by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
Security personnel from Badia, Trinity, and Kirikiri divisions established cordons to prevent onlookers from interfering and ensured emergency responders could carry out rescue operations safely.
Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged truck operators to exercise extreme caution, especially near bridges, intersections, and busy roads, to prevent similar accidents.
