Colombian Vice President Arrives Nigeria On Official Visit


The Vice President of the Republic of Colombia, Her Excellency Francia Márquez, arrived in Abuja on a three-day official visit on Saturday.

She was accompanied by her spouse, Mr. Rafael Yerney Pinillo Ocoró.

On arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, she was received by several Nigerian officials.

Among those who welcomed her were the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Mrs. Márquez stated, “This official visit aims to deepen diplomatic and strategic relations between Nigeria and Colombia, and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including governance, trade, agriculture, energy, education, and security.”

The Colombian Vice President, along with her delegation of cabinet ministers, top government officials, and business leaders, is set to engage with Nigerian counterparts in discussions to strengthen bilateral ties.

A key highlight of the visit will include the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in strategic sectors such as women empowerment, trade, aviation, manufacturing, agriculture, and culture.

Mrs. Márquez also emphasized the importance of business and technological cooperation, noting, “We look forward to the Nigeria-Colombia Business Forum, government-to-government bilateral meetings, and side events such as the AI summit hosted by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

“These engagements will open new avenues for collaboration and shared growth.”

The visit is expected to reinforce Nigeria-Colombia relations and foster opportunities for economic development, governance improvement, and cultural exchange.

Both nations hope that the initiatives and agreements from this official visit will yield tangible benefits for citizens of both countries.
