“Collecting Transport Fare Without Showing Up Is Punishable Offence” – Rivers Police Spokesperson Warns Ladies


The Rivers State Police Command has issued a warning to young women, cautioning them against the practice of collecting transport money from men who invite them for visits but failing to honor the invitation after spending the money.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, made this known in a  video posted on X, stressing that such acts amount to deceit and could attract legal consequences under Nigerian law

According to her, it is considered an offence to accept transport fare from a man with the promise of meeting him, only to squander the money without showing up as agreed. She emphasized that this form of financial exploitation is punishable and may lead to arrest or imprisonment.

“Accepting transport from a man without seeing him in person is a punishable offence that could land you in jail,” SP Iringe-Koko stated, clarifying that the warning particularly applies to cases where ladies collect money under false pretenses and fail to fulfill their promises.

The Rivers State Police Command further urged women to act responsibly and desist from actions that could be classified as fraud or obtainment by false pretenses. The statement also reassured the public of the command’s determination to curb exploitative practices while promoting safety and accountability.
