The coalition of civil society organisations, media practitioners and concerned citizens has condemned in strong terms the brazen and atrocious land grabbing activities in the federal capital territory(FCT)
National coordinator, network for peace and security Comrade, James Okoronkwo, while speaking with journalist in a world press conference over the weekend in Abuja, said these acts of land grabbing not only violates the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria but also undermine the rule of law, threatens national security and erode public trust in our constitution
Okoronkwo who cited the case between the minister of FCT Barr Nyesom Wike and former chief of naval staff stated that the ministers should be commended for his relentless efforts to bring transparency and accountability to land administration, a mission that has earned him both praise and undue hostility from those benefiting from the status quo.
Also the convener mentioned that in September 2024 there was military demolition in Karu where 4 hectres earmarked for public school was demolished by Lt Col Ibrahim Salim under the guise of securing strategic assets, claiming the land was government reserved.
The school construction was halted and over 200 pupils were affected.
He further said in October 2024 and November 2025 there was a land swap scandal in Bwari area council and another illegal revocation in Abuja municipal in a site allocated to a federal agency for a hospital by Brig.-Gen. Samuel Okon.
Okoronkwo urgently appealed to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the commander in chief of the armed forces to order an immediate independent investigation into the incident between the FCT minister Barr Wike and Lt AM Yerima.
He also urged the chief of defence staff and service chiefs to stop all military personnel from engaging in land grabbing or interfering with FCT land administration.
