The leadership of South-South Chiefs and Elders has expressed shock at the death of its patron and an elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark.
He died at the age of 97 years. His passage was announced by his family.
National Chairman of the group, Chief Omubo Harry, who got to know about his demise through the reporter, described Clark as the headmaster of struggle for Niger Delta freedom.
Harry further described him as the father of Niger Delta people, who made the South-South and Ijaw ethnic nationality proud.
He expressed: “Edwin Clark is a father to the Niger Delta. He is a even a father to the group called South-South Chiefs and Elders.
“And when we talk about pioneers fighters in the Niger Delta freedom, he is the headmaster of all. Minus the fact that he is an elder statesman, Edwin Clark is a father to the struggle for the emancipation of Niger Delta freedom.
He is our father in terms of this struggle for liberation of the oppressed in Nigeria, special reference to the Niger Delta region.”
According to the national chairman of the group, Clark will always be remembered as a vocal voice in defending the oppressed in the Nigeria.
