MAKURDI – A group under the auspices of Jemgbagh Progressive Youth Alliance (JPYA), has described the allegation by Abua Yaji, a former chairman of Gboko Local Government Area (LGA), of Benue state, that the State Governor Hyacinth Alia deployed about N4 billion in his bid to unseat the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as false and a distraction.
Convener of the group, Douglas Atume Terry, who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday, explained that Yaji was using the allegations to distract the governor from his work of governance.
He said, “Recently, a certain Abua Yaji made some wide, malicious, and unverifiable allegations against the Chief Servant of Benue State, His Excellency Reverend Father Doctor Hyacinth Iormem Alia that has been making (the) round in the media.
“It is, both disheartening and utterly unacceptable that certain individuals within our clan (Jemgbagh), most notably Mr. Abua Yajir, have resorted to unwarranted and disparaging criticisms against a governor who has continually demonstrated his commitment to the progress and welfare of the masses.
“However, we felt it was necessary to set the record straight so that unsuspecting members of the public would not treat the outright malicious falsehoods being dished out by this character as a reflection of the position of the thousands of Jemgbagh youth on the administration of the Benue State Governor.
“His spurious allegation against Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of diversion of State funds amounting to over four billion naira (N4 billion) to unseat the SGF, Sir George Akume is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to distract the attention of the Chief Servant of Benue State from the good work his administration is doing, for which he is being applauded by the masses, regardless of their political or religious inclinations.
“However, we will not stand by silently as baseless criticisms emerge from within our ranks. To Mr. Yajir and his ilk, it is shocking how soon they have forgotten the “yes father” campaign slogan they sang prior to the 2023 elections. We wish to educate detractors that the Governor has given power back to the masses through his numerous administrative strides. At the appropriate time, the masses shall rise to the occasion and make their bold statements through the ballot way better than they did in the 2023 general elections.”
Pointing out some of the achievements of the governor, Terry explained that “Governor Hycacinth Iormem Alia since assumption office has given attention to the welfare of workers, both at the state and local government levels.
“His Excellency has also focused on improving the educational sector, agriculture, health, security and infrastructural development, Jemgbagh has already taken her great share of projects with an underpass undergoing construction among other projects too numerous to mention. All the achievements in these sectors are tangible and can be seen,” he stated.
