Chukwueze Bags Brace, Iwobi Scores In Fulham’s Loss To City

A Samuel Chukwueze brace and Alex Iwobi strike was not enough as Fulham fell to a 5-4 defeat to Manchester City in a Premier League fixture at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.

The win means second placed City, who are on 28 points, have cut Arsenal’s lead to just two points.

The Gunners, however, can restore their five points lead over Pep Guardiola’s side if they beat Brentford on Wednesday.

On their part, Fulham occupy 15th place on 17 points on the log.

City raced to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Erling Haaland (17 min), Tijani Reijnders (37 min) and Phil Foden (44 min).

Haaland’s goal was his 100th in the Premier League and it only took him 111 games to achieve the feat. This means he has set a new record which was previously held by Alan Shearer, who reached 100 goals in 124 games.

Former Arsenal player Emile Smith Rowe pulled a goal back for Fulham in the second minute of first half stoppage time.

But just three minutes into the second half Foden got his second goal to make it 4-1 before an own goal by Sander Berge in the 54th minute gave City a 5-1 lead.

Iwobi got on the score sheet three minutes after City’s fifth goal to bring the scoreline to 5-2.

Chukwueze, who came on in the 46th minute, got his side’s third and fourth goals on 73 and 78 minutes.

Fulham almost drew level in stoppage time but Josko Gvardiol made a goal line clearance.

Also in action for Fulham was another Nigeria international Calvin Bassey, who featured for 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Chukwueze, Iwobi and Bassey have been included in the Super Eagles’ provisional 55-man squad for the month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
