A “snow village” attraction in China has temporarily closed and apologised to visitors for using fake snow made of cotton and soapy water.
The Chengdu Snow Village in Sichuan province issued an apology on social media after receiving online criticism from visitors who arrived to discover that the “snow” was an unconvincing mixture of cotton and soapy water.
The attraction’s operators explained that the recent unusually warm weather forced them to use fake snow.
“It did not achieve the outcome we had hoped for, but it did leave a negative impression on tourists,” the statement said. “We sincerely apologise for not being able to display a real snow scene and causing visitors to change their travel plans.”
The tourist attraction has been temporarily closed while officials consider other options.
