Chigbue, other Lawyers sworn In as notaries public in Abuja

The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, on Thursday administered the oath of office to 240 newly appointed Notaries Public, including Barrister Somaniya Chigbue, Esq., in a ceremony that underscored the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening legal administration in Nigeria.

The event, held at the Ceremonial Court Hall of the FCT High Court, followed the official confirmation of the appointments by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Speaking at the swearing-in, Justice Baba-Yusuf charged the newly inducted Notaries Public to uphold integrity, professionalism, and fairness in the discharge of their duties.

He emphasised that the role of a Notary Public is central to ensuring trust, authenticity, and credibility in legal and commercial transactions.

He further reminded the appointees that the office comes with significant responsibility, requiring strict adherence to ethical standards and the protection of the public interest.

Barr Chigbue, alongside his colleagues, received his certificate of appointment after the oath-taking, marking a major milestone in his legal career.

The new notaries are expected to begin offering services such as the authentication of documents, affirmation of affidavits, and witnessing of signatures in accordance with statutory provisions.

The ceremony was attended by senior judicial officers, legal practitioners, and family members of the inductees, who witnessed the formal transition of the lawyers into their new statutory roles.
