Chelsea’s youngster Carney Chukwuemeka completes £24m transfer to Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £24 million, with the midfielder penning a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old, who impressed during a loan spell with Dortmund in the second half of last season, now makes the switch permanent after making 32 appearances for Chelsea since his £20m move from Aston Villa in 2022.

Chukwuemeka’s arrival continues Dortmund’s tradition of investing in young talent and comes as the Bundesliga side look to strengthen their midfield options for the new campaign.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have also agreed to send young defender Aaron Anselmino to Dortmund on a season-long loan, with the player flying to Germany to complete the move.

The sale of Chukwuemeka takes Chelsea’s summer transfer income to over £270m, helping offset the £277m they have already spent on signings.

The Blues have been under pressure from UEFA to maintain a positive transfer balance this window to register new arrivals for this season’s Champions League, following a £26.7m fine for breaching financial regulations.

Several other senior Chelsea players could still depart before the transfer deadline, while the club remains linked with moves for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons.
