Chelsea part ways with Mauricio Pochettino on mutual agreement

Chelsea Football Club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced in a statement Tuesday.

The decision marks the end of Pochettino’s one-year tenure at Stamford Bridge, which began last summer.

Reports had earlier made the rounds during the day about a disagreement between the club and Pochettino, especially in the areas of choosing his squad, and having a say in who leaves and who comes in.

A bone of contention is the rising talks of potential sell of Conor Gallagher and Trevor Chalobah, who the coach insists on keeping.

The club statement read in part, “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Recall the Argentine boss had received backlash earlier in the season due to consistent poor run of form.

However, he gained the admiration of several Chelsea fans towards the end of the campaign for his remarkable efforts.

His end of the season surge includes finishing sixth in the league standings, which ensured a European competition for the Blues next season.

Meanwhile, Pochettino showed appreciation to the club, stating, “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history.

“The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

The departing manager leaves with his coaching staff; Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.
