Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared a lighthearted story about a surprise visit he received from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a post on his X handle on Friday, Charly Boy recounted how Obi called him late one night, asking if he could stop by his house around 5:30 a.m. the next morning.
According to him, Obi arrived promptly at 5:45 a.m., staying true to his word without keeping “African time.”

Charly Boy said he was astonished when he came downstairs to find a large “Ghana Must Go” bag placed at the entrance of his sitting room. At first, he wondered what could be inside the bag.
The entertainer explained that after about two hours of discussion with Obi on politics, Nigeria, and family matters, the politician told him, “See small thing I bring for you.”
On checking the bag after Obi’s departure, Charly Boy said he burst into laughter when he discovered it was filled with roasted groundnuts, kolanuts, alligator pepper, pawpaw, oranges, bananas, mangoes, and other fruits—all handpicked by Obi himself.
He quoted Obi as saying, “Senior, I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.”
Charly Boy described the gesture as an act of “native intelligence” that touched him more than money could.
“Sometimes na the little things go remind you say life no too hard. Na kolanut and bitter kola wey Obi dash me sweet me pass money,” he wrote, adding that the experience filled him with joy.
