Champions League Wednesday’s Results: Ramos’ Late Goal Sinks Barcelona, Arsenal Win, Others

Paris Saint-Germain left it late but walked away with the biggest result of the Champions League Matchday 2, beating Barcelona 2-1 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Wednesday, October 1.

The Champions League night seemed to be heading for a stalemate after both sides traded first-half goals. Barcelona looked sharp at times, yet PSG refused to budge.

The turning point came in the dying minutes, when Achraf Hakimi found space on the right and cut the ball across to Gonçalo Ramos. The striker kept his composure to fire home the 90th-minute winner, silencing the home support and sparking wild celebrations among the visitors.

Hakimi had already been pivotal earlier in the game, blocking a Dani Olmo effort midway through the second half to prevent Barça from regaining the lead. His all-round display was as decisive as Ramos’ finishing.

For PSG, the win makes it two victories from two, setting up an intriguing showdown with Bayer Leverkusen in their next outing. Barcelona, stuck on three points, will now look to bounce back when they face Olympiakos later this month.

In England, Newcastle United sent a clear message with a 4-0 demolition of Union Saint-Gilloise.

Anthony Gordon stepped up confidently to bury two penalties, while Nick Woltemade continued his dream start by adding a goal of his own.

Remarkably, Woltemade is now the first Newcastle player to score in both his Premier League and Champions League debuts. At the same time, Gordon became the first Magpie to net in his first two European matches since Patrick Kluivert in 2004-05.

Manchester City’s trip to Monaco turned into a tense battle. Erling Haaland was once again the headline act, scoring his 51st and 52nd goals in the Champions League, but City were pegged back by a last-minute Eric Dier penalty as the game ended 2-2.

Haaland now sits just four goals behind Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tally of 56, with eighth place on the all-time list within touching distance.

Arsenal, meanwhile, kept their winning momentum alive with a 2-0 triumph over Olympiakos. Gabriel Martinelli struck before halftime, and Bukayo Saka sealed the result late on.

In Spain, Villarreal and Juventus served up one of the matches of the night. Federico Gatti’s stunning bicycle kick lit up the contest before Francisco Conceição added another for Juve.

But Villarreal clawed their way back and, deep into stoppage time, Renato Veiga bundled home the equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen’s teenage star Christian Kofane marked his first Champions League start with a goal in a 1-1 draw with PSV, while Rasmus Højlund struck twice as Napoli edged Sporting Lisbon 2-1.

Borussia Dortmund ran riot after the break to beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1, and Qarabağ FK made history with their first-ever group stage victory, a 2-0 win over FC Copenhagen.

It was a night that offered everything the Champions League promises: moments of magic, high drama in stoppage time, and the birth of new heroes alongside the brilliance of established stars.
