Cattle dealers vow support as Edo moves to strengthen livestock management ‎‎

‎The National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NACDPAMN), Edo state chapter, has pledged to work closely with the state government to address incidents of violence and crises linked to cattle operations in the state.

‎The association said the renewed collaboration was aimed at strengthening livestock management in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎The chairman of NACDPAMN, Yusuf Ibrahim Imokha, gave the assurance Friday during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Livestock, Prof. Ikponmwosa Omorodion.

‎He noted that the livestock sector remained critical to peace, security, and economic development, stressing that the visit was to deepen institutional cooperation with the newly created Ministry and to explore solutions to recurring herder–farmer conflicts.

‎“Our mandate is to work with the ministry. We pledge our loyalty and support in all areas where we are needed, especially in addressing issues of violence or crises associated with cattle operations,” Imokha said.

‎Responding, Prof. Omorodion said the state had experienced a significant influx of herders, many of whom were undocumented.

‎According to the commissioner, this situation poses challenges to effective planning, sector oversight, and security management.

He clarified that the on-going profiling of herders across the state was strictly a “security and data-management measure,” dismissing insinuations that it was intended to impose additional taxes on cattle dealers.

‎‎“Cattle dealing is a major sub-sector, but can we boldly say we know the locations of all the cattle in this state? If the answer is no, that is where the problem begins,” he said.
