Phil Foden scored one and set up another to guide Manchester City to a 2-0 victory over League One side Huddersfield Town, booking their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Foden and Nico O’Reilly were the only players to retain their spots from Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal, and it was the England international who made the difference.
He opened the scoring in the 18th minute, drilling a precise finish into the bottom corner after a slick exchange with teenage debutant Divine Mukasa.
The 25-year-old dictated play throughout, spraying passes and threatening from set-pieces, while Huddersfield had chances of their own through Zepiqueno Redmond and captain Ben Wiles, but failed to hit the target.
City sealed the win 16 minutes from time when Foden slipped a clever ball to Savinho, who rifled a shot in off the underside of the bar for his first goal in sky blue.
Town nearly grabbed a late consolation when Cameron Ashia curled an effort onto the post, but James Trafford preserved his clean sheet on his return to Pep Guardiola’s side.
