From Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, yesterday, maintained that the Armed Forces of Nigeria met all the requirements and followed due process in applying for visa to attend the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.

Gen. Musa, while noting that the armed forces would never resort to short cut, said, “the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser (NSA), and everybody is aware of this journey and we followed due  process”.

He, however, stated that for reasons best known to the Canadian authorities most of the teams among them the team captain the medical doctor, the physiotherapist among others were denied visa.

The CDS, made this known when he received contingent of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who won medals at the event at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

Gen. Musa, said: “On the issue of the denial of the visa, we must not travel abroad. Nigeria is good enough for all of us.

“We had an agreement, we were invited, a programme was sent, we followed our requirements and the process.

“Everybody knows members of the armed forces will never take shortcuts.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the NSA, everybody is aware of this journey and we followed due process.

“But for reasons best known to them, most of the teams remember, like the team captain did not go, the medical doctor was not there, the physiotherapist did not go

“All those that were important for the team were not given visas. And the question is why?

“Well, I’m happy that the federal government is also looking at that aspect,’’.

The CDS, who stressed the  importance for people to understand that Nigerians deserve respect all over the world, said that Nigeria must never accommodate disrespect from anybody.

The CDS, who commended the participants for making Nigeria proud, said that they left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who have witnessed the journey.

He said: “You are the true embodiment of the invictus spirit, unconquered, unbroken and unstoppable.”
