The Edo State Government has installed Optic Fibre Cable Broadband across the campuses of Edo University, Iyamho, for internet services.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Edo University Iyamho, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, disclosed this on Monday during a press conference to mark the 6th convocation ceremony of the institution scheduled for February 27, 2025 during which 430 students would be graduating.
Of this number, he said, 14 will be graduating with first class degree, 140 will receive various degrees and Post graduate degrees, while 20 would bag the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in different fields
He said the installation of the broadband internet services around the campuses was to provide fast transmission of data to the academics, staff members and students.
According to him, “Provision of the internet is a crucial part of the structure of an institution of higher learning across the world”.
Prof Egbefo also stated that the university’s core mission of providing world class education is to curb educational tourism in the state and Nigeria, adding that the government vision of making the university a centre of excellence is well maintained.
He noted that since inception, the university has consistently operated with a stable academic calendar, ensuring that students graduate on schedule despite unforeseen challenges such as the COVID 19 pandemic.
Prof Egbefo further said that the institution has recorded academic successes with the nursing students professional exam rating 100 per cent, while faculty of law 500 level students is finalised in compliance with Law school schedule procedures to ensure prompt graduation opportunities.
The university, he also said, has received accreditation for M.Sc Accounting and Master in Public Administration Programmes and several others.
The Acting VC disclosed that 430 students would be graduating at its 6th convocation with 14 graduating with first class degrees, while 140 granduands will receive various Post graduate degrees, including 20 others, with the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in different fields
He, however, said the university would award honorary degrees to two deserving Nigerians who had distinguished themselves in their services to Edo and Nigeria.
They are Adams Oshiomhole former governor of Edo and Senator representing Edo North and Vincent Agenmomen, Chairman, Freedom Group in Nigeria, stating that their awards are precognition for their illustrious careers and contributions to the development of our dear country.
While thanking the state government for keeping fate on the University’s management and allowing it to pilot the affairs of the university, the acting VC assured the public that the University operates zero tolerance for vices, as a result of the recent increase of students admission of 1,528 for the 2024/2025 academic session.
