Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has named Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as a better forward than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Bassey, who plays alongside Osimhen for Nigeria, said the Super Eagles frontman has shown rare quality for both club and country.
Speaking to Turkish outlet Habersarikirmizi, Bassey said: “Osimhen is better than Haaland, so he’s more difficult. Sorry Haaland.”
He went on to praise Osimhen’s rise to the top of European football, saying: “Osimhen is incredible. What he has done for his country, what he has achieved in the Champions League, it’s truly incredible. He’s a lethal striker.”
Bassey admitted he would have liked to see Osimhen in the Premier League, but also joked that he was relieved not to face him on a regular basis.
“I was happy and sad at the same time that he didn’t come to the Premier League. I think it would have been good for him. But yes, I’m glad I didn’t have to play against him,” he added.
“But he’s at a very big club now and he’s doing great things, he’s doing incredible things.”
Meanwhile, striker Stephen Odey is set to leave Danish club Randers at the end of the month.
The 27-year-old joined the club during the 2021-222 season, initially on loan with an option to buy, before signing a permanent deal. He went on to score 28 goals in 129 appearances across all competitions.
With his contract expiring, Odey is expected to secure a move to a new club in January after four and a half years in the Superliga.
