Calabar Zonal Elective Congress Of South-South PDP To Adopt Zoning Formula To Elect Officers, ZEC

The South-South Zonal Executive Council, ZEC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has approved and rectified zoning formula to be adopted at the Zonal Elective Congress coming up in Calabar, Cross River State, on February 22, 2025.

The zoning formula which was recommended by the Zoning Committee, according to the Communiqué issues at the end of the Zonal Executive Committee meeting held in Benin, will guide the contest for party offices in the upcoming elections for the Zonal Working Committee.

The zoned positions are allocated as follows: Chairman -Edo State, Secretary-Cross River State,Treasurer-Delta State, Financial Secretary -Rivers State, Legal Adviser-Akwa Ibom State, Publicity Secretary-Rivers State,
Woman Leader: Akwa Ibom State and Youth Leader- Cross River State.

The ZEC has also authorized the Zonal Working Committee to undertake all necessary arrangements to ensure a successful Elective Congress that will usher in new leaders for the party in the zone for the next four years.

The Communiqué signed by Arch. Ekom Akonjom, Zonal Organizing Secretary for and on behalf of ZEC also adopted the following resolutions:

“That the ZEC has approved the suspension of the Zonal Secretary, Chief Felix Omemu, for misconduct in line with the provisions of Articles 47 (6), 57(1 – 3), and 58 (1)(a) of the Constitution of the Party as amended.

That ZEC also approved the setting up of a Disciplinary Committee to investigate the allegations of misconduct against the suspended Zonal Secretary.

That, following the suspension of the Zonal Secretary, the Zonal Executive Committee approved the appointment of George Turnah (MON) Esq as Acting Zonal Secretary effective immediately, pending the completion of the disciplinary committee’s assignment and the final decision taken by Congress.

That the new Acting Zonal Secretary was sworn in immediately by the National Vice Chairman of the Party, South South Zone, Chief Dan Orbih, with the oath of office administered by a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche.

That the disciplinary committee set up to investigate the allegations of misconduct against the suspended Zonal Secretary is mandated to report its findings to Congress for deliberations and necessary action.

That the meeting, presided over by the Zonal Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, was well attended by stalwarts and leaders of the Party, including several members of the Zonal Executive Committee.

That Notable attendees included the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, Senators, Honourable Members of the House of Representatives Speakers, and Principal Officers of State Houses of Assembly, such as Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule of Rivers State, members of the PDP Board of Trustees, present and former members of the National Working Committee from the zone, State Chairmen, Secretaries, Treasurers, Youth Leaders, and Women Leaders of State chapters across the zone, amongst others.

That the Zonal Elective Congress: The ZEC approves that the 2025 Zonal Elective Congress will be held in Calabar, Cross River State, on February 22, 2025.

That this communique serves to inform all members and stakeholders of the PDP within the zone of these important decisions. Together, we will continue to strengthen our Party and its goals”.
