Calabar Rovers Appoint Okonkwo As Head Coach


Calabar Rovers, a second-tier domestic football league side in the Nigeria National League (NNL), have appointed Coach Christian Okonkwo (The Bull) as their new Head Coach, replacing Caleb Esu who recently joined the national U-20 men’s team as Assistant Coach, Completesports.com reports.

Okonkwo’s Background and Career

Okonkwo was previously with Solution FC, Awka, Anambra State, serving as an Assistant Coach before his latest appointment by the ‘Canaan City’ side.

The former striker enjoyed an illustrious playing career with spells at Kwara United and FC Ifeanyi Ubah, amongst other clubs. He also featured for Athletic Club of Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as FC Belize.

Confirmation of Okonkwo Appointment

Ita Egbe, General Manager of Calabar Rovers, could not be reached on his mobile phone when Completesports.com contacted him.

However, Coach Okonkwo, on Friday evening, confirmed exclusively to Completesports.com that he has taken over at Calabar Rovers.

“Yes, I’m no longer with Solution FC. I’ve moved to Calabar Rovers where I’m now the Head Coach,” Okonkwo told Completesports.com.

Udube Replaces Okonkwo At Solution FC

Meanwhile, checks reveal that Okonkwo’s former position at Solution FC has been taken over by Coach Willy Udube.

Udube previously served as Assistant Coach at Heartland, Abia Warriors and Rivers United. He also held Head Coach roles at Go Round FC, Omoku, and Edel FC, Awka.

As a player, Udube was a midfielder for Jasper United and Iwuanyanwu Nationale, and also had a brief stint in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Achebe Joins Solution FC Coaching Crew

Further checks reveal that Coach Obinna Achebe, who has previously handled Ozalla FA, St. Nwadinso FC and Sporting FC, Lagos, has also joined Solution FC in the capacity of Assistant Coach.
