Rivers United suffered a 3-0 defeat to holders Pyramids FC of Egypt in their CAF Champions League matchday one encounter in Cairo on Saturday.

Ahmed Atef scored all three goals for the home side.

Rivers United produced a resolute display in the first half, limiting the Egyptians to just a couple of half-chances.

Finidi George’s side, however, capitulated in the second half. Atef opened the scoring for Pyramids FC in the 52nd minute, before adding two more goals in the 57th and 72nd minutes respectively.

Rivers United will host RS Berkane of Morocco in their matchday two encounter in Uyo next Friday.
