Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to his Kaduna residence, abandoning his Daura country home, in Katsina state, nearly two years, after leaving the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, seat of power.
The former president had relocated to Daura, Katsina state, on the 29th of May, 2023, after handing over power to his successor, President Bola Tinubu.
Bashir Ahmad, former Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Digital Communication, disclosed this on X yesterday.
The former President had last month, declared that he has been living off the income from renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna.
Speaking at a political meeting in Kaduna, he explained that he owns just three houses: one in his hometown of Daura, and two in Kaduna State.
“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” Buhari said.

Ahmad had noted that Buhari opted for a quiet life in his hometown, while largely staying out of active political discussions, focusing on private engagements.
He also revealed that Buhari was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries, which included Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and his Kaduna State counterpart, Uba Sani; current and former deputy governors of Katsina State.
Others on the team included unnamed former Inspector General of Police, former ministers, and several of his personal aides.
Why Buhari hasn’t been out much
The former President’s absence from two high-profile events in the last one week, had raised concerns.
Buhari was absent at the unveiling of former President Ibrahim Babangida’s autobiography, “ A journey in Service”, where Babangida explained how they overthrew his administration in 1985, over his “ high handedness”
His absence was attributed to lingering resentment over the 1985 coup that ousted him from power.
Buhari abd his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, were also conspicuously absent at the APC NEC meeting on Wednesday,
Garba Shehu, his Media aide, while explaining Buhari’s absence, attributed it to “ late invitation to the meeting”
According to him, “President Buhari was supposed to attend the NEC meeting, but unfortunately the invitation was forwarded to him on Monday and it reached him on Tuesday. For this, he could not leave Daura for Abuja even if he owns a private jet.”
