Brentford Sink United 3-1 As Pressure Mounts On Amorim

Manchester United’s woes worsened on Saturday as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Naija News understands that the result has left manager Ruben Amorim under increasing pressure.

Brentford’s Brazilian forward, Igor Thiago, was the star of the afternoon, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes to put the visitors on the back foot.

He opened the scoring in the 8th minute, breaking the offside trap before slotting calmly past Altay Bayindir. Twelve minutes later, he doubled his tally, pouncing on a rebound to make it 2-0.

United briefly clawed back into the contest in the 26th minute when Benjamin Šeško bundled home after a goalmouth scramble, raising faint hopes of a comeback.

But those hopes faded in the second half when captain Bruno Fernandes squandered a golden chance to level the scores. His 71st-minute penalty was brilliantly saved by Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, who dived the right way to preserve his side’s lead.

As United pushed forward desperately, Brentford struck late on the counter. Substitute Mathias Jensen produced a stunning finish deep into stoppage time, curling home from distance to secure a famous 3-1 victory for the Bees.

The result comes barely a week after United’s morale-boosting win over Chelsea, dragging the club back into turmoil ahead of the international break.
