President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Thursday swore in Professor Joash Amupitan as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The new INEC chairman was sworn in at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This followed his confirmation by the Senate.

Amupitan, a professor of law at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), hails from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi state.

He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2014, specialising in company law, law of evidence, corporate governance and privatisation law.

With his swearing in, Amupitan would conduct the Anambra state governorship election scheduled for early November 2025 and the Federal Capital Territory Area Council election in February 2026.
