Security officials at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos have arrested some passengers alleged to be travelling on an Aero Contractors flight with cash exceeding $6.1 million in their possession.
Sources familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly, told PREMIUM TIMES that the money was being transported by a group of young men suspected to be acting on behalf of a politically exposed person.
Although details remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, the sources said the suspects were apprehended by officials of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit at the domestic terminal (MMA 1) of the airport.
The suspects have since been handed over to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further questioning.

“We are still working with the EFCC to unravel the full details,” a senior AVSEC official told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.
When contacted, a spokesperson of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, asked that our question be sent by SMS which was done. She has yet to reply the message.
