DAMATURU – Pandemonium broke out at the Government Girls Science Technical College in Potiskum, Yobe State, today, Thursday, when a classroom block collapsed on female students during school hours.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred, leaving several students trapped under the rubble.
Emergency responders and school officials quickly swung into action, rushing the victims to the Specialists Hospital Potiskum for medical attention.
As at the time of filing this report, details of the incident were still sketchy, but sources at the hospital confirmed that several students were admitted and receiving treatment while one is dead.
Officials of the Yobe State Ministry of Education were said to have rushed to Potiskum from Damaturu to assess the situation.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but an investigation is expected to be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with parents and guardians of the students expressing shock and anxiety over the fate of their children.
