Breaking: Benue university shut down after students’ abduction

The Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), Benue state, Wednesday, shut down operations after unknown armed men abducted four students on campus.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at approximately 8:00 pm near Zamfara Hostel and Ring road.

The iniversity management in a statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Dr. John U. David, condemned the incident and said the government and the security agencies have been duly informed on the unfortunate incident.

The Registrar said in response to the abduction, the university has postponed an inaugural lecture scheduled for Wednesday and granted a one week mid-semester break to all students.

All students have been instructed to vacate their hostels by 4 pm on Wednesday.

“The university management has assured that security agencies are working to secure the release of the abducted students and have urged staff, students, and the general public to remain calm,” the statement noted.
