The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the major winner of Saturday’s local government chairmanship elections, securing 20 out of the 23 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win only three LGAs—Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt City (PHALGA), and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA). In a surprising outcome, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s home base, Opobo-Nkoro LGA, went to the APC.
Announcing the results on Sunday at the RSIEC headquarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, listed the official outcomes as follows:
