Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged on Wednesday from Brasilia’s DF Star Hospital, where he had been admitted a day earlier after experiencing vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure.
In a statement, the hospital confirmed that Bolsonaro’s condition had improved but said he would continue to receive follow-up care. The former leader had also visited the facility on Sunday for the removal of skin lesions.
Subsequent tests revealed the presence of squamous cell carcinoma, an early form of skin cancer. Bolsonaro’s doctor, Claudio Birolini, told reporters that two lesions were identified and removed.
“The tests showed that two of the lesions were an early type of skin cancer,” Birolini said. “This has already been treated through removal, but regular monitoring is required to ensure no new lesions appear and that the removals were complete.”
The health development comes just days after Bolsonaro’s deepening legal troubles. Last week, a Supreme Court panel sentenced him to 27 years and three months in prison for allegedly plotting a coup after losing the 2022 presidential election. He has been under house arrest since August for allegedly seeking to pressure Brazil’s courts with the backing of US President Donald Trump.
Bolsonaro, who governed Brazil from 2019 to 2022, has faced mounting legal, political, and health challenges since leaving office.
