Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge could suffer a major setback amid reports that Kai Havertz is set to miss the rest of the season due to injury.
The 25-year-old German forward reportedly sustained a torn hamstring during Arsenal’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai and was scheduled for further tests upon the team’s return to England.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Havertz could be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign, though Arsenal have yet to confirm the extent of the injury.
His potential long-term absence compounds Arsenal’s attacking struggles, particularly after they failed to reinforce their frontline in the January transfer window. The Gunners had attempted to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa but were unsuccessful.
Havertz was expected to lead Arsenal’s attack for the rest of the season, with Mikel Arteta hinting that the German might have to play every game.
The situation is further worsened by the season-ending ACL injury to Gabriel Jesus, while Bukayo Saka has been sidelined since December—though he is expected to return next month.
Adding to Arsenal’s injury woes, Gabriel Martinelli remains out after suffering an injury in the League Cup semi-final defeat to Newcastle last week. These setbacks leave the Gunners with just three recognized forwards: Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and Ethan Nwaneri.
Arteta is expected to address Havertz’s injury status during his pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
Currently second in the league, Arsenal are six points behind leaders Liverpool—having played a game more—as they push to become English champions for the first time in 21 years.
