Bethel Mbamara Crowned Mister International Africa, Finishes 3rd Runner-Up Globally

Nigeria’s Bethel Mbamara has secured the 3rd Runner-Up position at the prestigious Mister International 2025 competition, held in Thailand, earning praise for his stellar performance and striking cultural presentation.

At the grand finale on Thursday, September 25, Mbamara, who had earlier clinched the “Most Fashionable Contestant” award, was also named Mister International Africa, confirming his spot as one of the standout participants of the night.

The coveted title went to the Philippines’ Kirk Bondad, marking the country’s first win in 11 years.

Lebanon’s Saadedine Hneineh finished as 1st Runner-Up, South Korea’s Seung-lo Choi placed 2nd Runner-Up, Costa Rica’s Roberto Mena took 4th Runner-Up, while Thailand’s Kanapol Treesongkiat rounded out the top five as 5th Runner-Up.

Mbamara captured global attention with his elaborate national costume, Ikpirikpi Ogu, inspired by the historic Abiriba Warrior Dance from Ohafia, Abia State.

The outfit—featuring towering headpieces, ancestral motifs, intricate textiles, and beadwork—symbolized the courage and resilience of the Abiriba people. Traditionally performed by groups of strong men, the Ikpirikpi Ogu is a celebratory dance of victory and warrior spirit, which Mbamara brilliantly reimagined on the international stage.

Now in its 17th edition, Mister International drew contestants from 42 countries, showcasing fashion, culture, and national pride. The event ran from September 12 to 25 and has continued to gain prestige, particularly after Nigeria’s Nwajagu Samuel made history last year as the first Nigerian and African to win the title.

Mbamara’s success not only reinforces Nigeria’s growing presence in the global pageant scene but also highlights the power of culture as a symbol of national pride on the world stage.
